Tim Tebow Article

Hopefully, you have read the Tim Tebow article I distributed in class. I have three specfic questions for you to reply / comment on.

#1 - In the history of sports marketing - the business of turning success in stadiums into the ability to pitch products outside of them - has there ever been anything like 23 year old Timothy Richard Tebow?

#2 - Please compare and contrast Tim Tebow to the "original" Tiger Woods.

#3  - Why does Tim Tebow have a broad audience, even fans of other teams?

#4 - If you're an athlete seen by great swaths of American public as likeable, trustworthy and sincere, but you don't even play at all, do  any of those things matter? Does any of that still make you marketable?

I totally believe that Tebow is a Marketing machine. I believe the whole mind set on picking him was to gain some profits through ticket sales, jerseys, and Publicity. Tebow had a great career in college he lead Florida to four great football years and won a Heisman, but lets be honest he just isn’t the best for an NFL star career. As it says in the article that Tim Tebow is the third string Quarter Back for The Broncos but the fact that he is thee biggest name in college football in the last decade makes him a star for merchandising. Going to one of the biggest football school university makes him a huge asset to the merchandising and advertising world. Personally if I was the GM I would throw him out there each game for a few throws just to pop his popularity. People have high hopes for the Gator god, and everybody who has followed college football is hoping for a good season from the broncos. The fact that he is the 3rd most known athlete in America just flat out amazes me. Another great thing about Tebow is his moral standards and ethical stance, having missionary parents and being a Christian makes him a great role model for American kids, this way parents have no problem with there kids walking around sporting number 15. In a time of darkness in America Tim Tebow has become the standard for young American athletes, he is a shining light through the mist, the things he has stood for and the points he has made have made him a great leader on and off the field. Its not just the star college status, but it’s the name, TIM TEBOW.

Tim and Tiger I pretty similar both of them stood for good moral standards and preformed great on and off the field. When Tiger lost his father, America lost a father; Tiger was the Golfer of America, Tebow is Americas Quarterback. Tiger was the front runner for many things, rolling in all the doe, if Tebow keeps up his great attitude he too will have success.
Yes all of those matter, because in life some times it doesn’t matter about all the accolades, it matters about moral character, and he is just a rookie, he has to put in the time to get the field.

  2. The White Knight
Tim Tebow is the single most powerful marketing pawn the NFL has. He literally applies to every single person in America. He is the epitome of an American. He is a hard-working, no-nonsense, and tough as nails man who every child should idolize. He is an example of all that is good. He is a White Knight in a sense. He is the light in a dark league that is full or murderers and thieves. He is the new face of the NFL. It’s also a good sign that people actually embrace the goodness in him. They buy his jerseys by the millions, sell out his shoes in five minutes, and clamor for more Tebow. Tebow is a devout Christian, which pulls in the huge majority of Believers in this country, but the interesting thing about Tebow, is that even non-believers adore him. His reach in terms of marketability is totally unlimited…if her performs well on the field. That could be the problem. Currently, he is a 2nd string quarterback on the Broncos. This means he won’t see the field much this year. For his sake and the sake of the NFL (especially with a lockout looming), Tim Tebow should see significant time this year and should have a year as good or better than Mark Sanchez did last year. Tim Tebow may be The Priest, Football Jesus, or the White Knight, but now he needs to simply be just the face of the most popular sport in America, football.

    1. No there really hasn’t been such a mix of athletic ability, public adoration, and pure marketability. The closest thing is LeBron James, but basketball doesn’t work the same way because its not America’s past time like football is. Only a football player could have this much marketability.
    2. Tim Tebow is famous for being a Christian football player. Woods was only famous for being a golf prodigy. Also, Woods always was viewed as a bad guy while Tebow was always a good guy. They were both high school/child prodigies. They both are endorsed by Nike.
    3. Because he is a genuinely good guy and everyone wants good guys to succeed. Also, he is Christian which transcends all aspects of sport loyalty to support other believers.
    4. Yes they still matter because you stand up for what you believe in and most people would like you for those things anyway. Plus, if you have those things and are really popular, you will get your chance to play.

  4. Review on Tebow
    Drew Creekmur
Tim Tebow is such a great marketing machine, mainly because of his values. People look at Tebow and see his clean cut, Christian values, and think of him as a model citizen. Women fawn over him because of his All-American good looks. While men love him, because he is man’s man, and a superior athlete. When a person has as much success as Tebow has, people look at him naturally and are just attracted to him. However, to me it does seem kind of crazy that he is the third most marketable athlete in America. However for every other marketing company in America looking to make a profit, using Tebow is a great idea. In my mind Tebow is a great marketing attraction. However I find it hard to believe that he will have great staying power. If he does not play in at least two years, his marketability will take a very serious nose dive. I feel that he will not play for two years, lose his marketability, but then play and gain it all back and be an even bigger attraction. At the moment Tebow Is a huge commodity, it will be interesting to see how he progresses through the next few months and years.
There never has been anyone just like Tebow. At some point in his career, Michael Jordan was like Tebow, the only difference is that Jordan was not 23 at the time like Tebow.
Tiger and Tebow are nothing alike whatsoever. Tiger lost all of his marketability after he got with about forty women besides his wife. Tebow on the other hand has never done anything to mess with his squeaky clean character. Compared to the old Tiger, Tebow is very much the same marketing placebo. Both of them are/were squeaky clean and great athletes.
